What animal made these tracks? What is it doing? [ View Answer ]

Answer

The diagonal bounding stride is typical of the mustelids. Given that these tracks are coming up the log as though it emerged from the water, mink would be a logical hypothesis -- even without more seeing any clues to scale.

These next two shots help confirm that this is indeed a mink. The close up also shows that what appears to be two separate tracks is actually four, with the hind feet landing over the front feet but left and right tracks form a diagonal.
