I found this track at 3,500 feet on the north side of Mt. Hood near Portland, Oregon. I was taking a break while studying mountain beaver and the fellow who made this track nearly walked into me.

Who made this track? [ View Answer ]
A large foot made this track. The broadleaf plants are matted over a large area and there is dirt transfer on top of the leaves. A human foot is plausible but there are no creases left on any leaves or stems from the edge of the sole.
If you guessed black bear you get a gold star. While watching the birds during a break while studying mountain beaver, a large black bear came out of a draw and nearly stumbled into me. I was able to follow his trail and document a variety of sign. Grizzly would be out of range here.
