Listen for his call ("peek") around boulder strewn slopes. Then look for a little ball of fur perched
on a favorite lookout rock. By the way, the pika is related to the rabbits and hares and is not a rodent.
Answer
The pika makes his home in skree slopes of our western mountains. He gathers plants from mountain
meadows during the summer, carries them back to the rocks, and piles them in haystacks to dry. He
harvests a variety of herbs and shrubs such as lupine and elderberry, storing them for winter use.
