While checking a remote camera site as part of a rare carnivore detection process I found these marks in the snow.

Answer

The trail going from lower left to upper right consisted of relatively large ovals in a diagonal pattern relative to the direction of travel. That diagonal pattern is typical of the weasel family. Although the sun had enlarged the tracks and blurred detail, this was clearly the work of a pine marten.

A second trail runs from lower right to upper right. This bounding stride had a straddle of about 1.5" and the front feet were . This mouse trail crosses the path of the marten but was delayed.s
