Who Done It?

These tracks were found in a side channel of the Sandy River at Dabney Park near Portland, Oregon.

Answer

First note the small shorebird tracks at the waters edge at the top of the picture. This is a spotted sandpiper, a very common presence along our inland waterways.

Second, note the webbed tracks moving top right to bottom middle with a pigeon toed gait. This was a duck, probably one the mallards seen dabbling in this pond.

Third, note the partial tracks across the middle of the photo. This was a crow moving from right to left. The long claws and the beaded appearance of the toes are important clues.
