This hole was partly hidden by the ground cover along a wall at the edge of a shopping mall near my home in Tigard, a suburb of Portland, Oregon.

Note that this is a relatively large hole, much larger than one would expect for mice or voles. The location, squeezed between a busy highway (Interstate 5) and the paved parking lot of a shopping mall, was particularly surprising.
This burrow was occupied by a California ground squirrel. The small population along the wall seemed to be thriving.
