Now here is a track you don’t see every day. James Halfpenny found this one on the flats at Beaver Lake in Yellowstone National Park.

This rear track suggests a round soft pad and five toes with long nails in a 1-3-1 pattern. This fellow walked slowly with a relatively wide stride.

There is, of course, one rodent who is never in much of a hurry-—the porcupine.
