Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas. 11/10/17
Note. This is a southern species that has only reached the Northwest a couple times, though at least one was probably from a butterfly release. Dana Ross found the first on Steens Mountain in Oregon. Three have been seen in Washington.
Similar species. The Monarch forewing has black veins and hindwing lacks white along the black veins. The Viceroy has a diagonal vein across the wing.
