Butterflies of Oregon and Washington

This website organizes photos of butterfly species found in Oregon or Washington. Although butterfly identification guides and websites have become widly available, it is helpful to have additional views, especially where there are differences between the exes or regional subspecies.

I generally follow the names given in Pyle and LaBarr (2018), Butterflies of the Pacific Northwest. I note other names used by NABA or other authors where they differ (see references). Unfortunately there have been changes over time and continuing disagreement for certain species.

Photos were taken by Dennis Deck unless otherwise specified.
