Toad

The Western toad is a fairly common but slow moving fellow in our area. Apparently the "warts" of toads have glands that secret a foul substance that discourages predators.

Some information on toad tracks can be found in James Halfpenny's Scats and Tracks books from the Falcon Guide Series and Olaus Murie's A Field Guide to Animal Tracks from the Peterson Field Guide Series. An alternating stride helps distinguish them from frog tracks.
